The Clementine is a classic Mediterranean mandarin hybrid prized for its sweet, easy-to-peel fruit and excellent eating quality. It originated as a chance seedling in the garden of French missionary Brother Clément Rodier in Misserghin, Algeria, in the late 19th century and quickly spread across the Mediterranean and beyond as one of the most beloved mandarin types. Clementines are among the more cold-tolerant mandarins and perform well in a range of subtropical climates.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Clementine trees are appreciated for their sweet flavor, manageable tree size, and good cold hardiness, making them a reliable choice for home growers and small-scale producers in northern citrus regions.
