The Dancy Tangerine (also known as Dancy Mandarin) is a historic Florida variety prized for its rich, sweet-tart flavor, deep reddish-orange color, and easy-to-peel thin skin. It originated in 1867 as a chance seedling in the orchard of Colonel Francis L. Dancy in Orange Mills, Florida, from a Moragne tangerine parent. It became one of the most popular tangerines in the U.S. during the early-to-mid 20th century and played a key role as a parent in many modern mandarin hybrids.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Dancy Tangerine trees are appreciated for their vigorous upright growth, flavorful fruit, and historical significance. They make a rewarding choice for home growers who enjoy classic varieties, though they benefit from careful management.
