The Duncan Grapefruit is the oldest grapefruit variety grown in the United States, valued for its large size, juicy white flesh, classic tart-sweet balance, and excellent processing quality. It traces its roots to a seedling planted around 1830 near Safety Harbor, Florida, from stock introduced by Count Odet Philippe (who brought grapefruit to Florida from the West Indies). It was formally named in 1892 and remains a benchmark heirloom for true grapefruit flavor.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Duncan Grapefruit trees produce large, flavorful fruit ideal for fresh eating or juicing. They are a reliable, productive choice for home growers seeking a traditional, high-quality white grapefruit.
