The Eustis Limequat is a true Florida original, created in 1909 by USDA scientist Walter T. Swingle at Eustis, Florida. Swingle crossed the cold-tender West Indian lime with the hardy round kumquat specifically to develop a lime-type fruit with better cold tolerance and a sweet, edible peel. The result is a delightful tangy lime flavor wrapped in a pleasantly sweet, thin rind that can be eaten fresh — a rare and useful trait among acid citrus.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Eustis Limequat trees are especially valued for their improved cold hardiness and unique edible-peel quality, making them a standout choice for growers in cooler citrus areas.
