The Finger Lime (DPI-205-1) is one of the most distinctive and sought-after citrus varieties in the world, prized for its slender, finger-shaped fruit and the tiny, caviar-like pearls of juice packed inside. Native to the rainforests of Australia (Citrus australasica), this variety produces elongated fruits that, when sliced open, release glistening green vesicles that pop with a bright, tangy burst of lime flavor — earning it the beloved nickname "citrus caviar." A favorite of gourmet chefs, finger limes add a vibrant splash of color and zest to seafood, salads, cocktails, and desserts. DPI-205-1 is the classic green-vesicled selection released through the Florida Citrus Budwood Program.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Finger Lime trees are grafted on standard rootstock and grown outside the traditional citrus belt for improved resilience and reduced pest pressure. Like its Australian relatives, DPI-205-1 carries natural field tolerance to HLB (citrus greening), making it a smart, low-worry choice for Florida growers. Compact, thorny, and wonderfully container-friendly, this rewarding variety brings a true gourmet touch — and plenty of conversation — to any home orchard or patio.
