The Hirado Pummelo (large pink-fleshed selection) is a prized Japanese heirloom variety that originated as a chance seedling in Nagasaki Prefecture and was named and introduced around 1910. It is especially noted for its large fruit size and attractive pink flesh in selected strains. Among pummelos, Hirado stands out for having better cold tolerance than most of its relatives while still delivering the classic large, mildly sweet, low-acid pummelo experience.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Hirado Pummelo trees are valued for their impressive fruit size and improved cold hardiness for a pummelo, making them an excellent choice for growers seeking something unique and substantial.
