Nova Tangelo
The Nova Tangelo is a cross between the Clementine and the Orlando tangelo, made by USDA breeders in Orlando, Florida, in 1942 and released to growers in 1964. Its medium-sized fruit has a smooth to lightly pebbled, deep red-orange rind that is among the most vividly colored of any Florida citrus. Inside, the flesh is tender, very juicy, and rich, with a sweet flavor and just enough acidity to keep it lively.
Nova peels more easily than most tangelos, which makes it a good snacking fruit as well as an excellent juicer. Its quality has earned it a place in commercial production around the world. It is grown widely in Spain, where it is marketed as “Clemenvilla,” and in Israel and South Africa. Because it ripens early, it helps bridge the gap between the first satsumas of fall and the main winter mandarin harvest.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Nova Tangelo trees are valued for their early harvest, standout color, and dependable sweetness, giving home growers easy-eating fruit before most winter citrus is ready.
