The Owari Satsuma is one of the most popular and reliable cold-hardy mandarin varieties grown in the southeastern United States. Originating in Japan from the Owari region, this satsuma selection was introduced to the U.S. in the late 19th century and quickly became a favorite in Florida and along the Gulf Coast because of its exceptional cold tolerance and dependable production. The fruit is sweet, juicy, easy to peel, and nearly seedless, with a rich mandarin flavor that develops well even in cooler climates.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Owari Satsuma trees are especially valued for their outstanding cold hardiness and reliable early-to-midseason crops, making them an excellent choice for growers in northern Florida and other cooler citrus regions.
