The Pineapple Orange is a historic Florida variety that originated as a seedling selection around 1860 on the property of J.B. Owens near Sparr (Citra area), Florida. It was first propagated in the 1870s and later renamed “Pineapple” for its distinctive delicate pineapple-like aroma and flavor. After the devastating freezes of the 1890s, it became one of the state’s principal midseason orange varieties and remains beloved for its sweet, juicy character.
At North Florida Citrus Nursery, our Pineapple Orange trees carry on a proud Florida legacy and are valued for their classic sweet flavor and reliable midseason production.
